"No you dont!" said Mikey difiantly

"I do" said said Shayne, placing his head in his hands again.

"Shayne...what have you done to your arms?"

Shayne hurriedly pulled his jacket sleeves up and hooked them round his thumbs "Nothin"

Ray used all his strength to rach up and pull at Shaynes sleeves

The sleeve fell down to show long, old, dark red cuts across his arms. Some seemed months old while others were only hours.

Ray stared at them in horror before he began to cry. He oulled shaynes arm up and gently so it didnt hurt shay ne kissed each one

Shayne looked down "I'm sorry"

When he had finished Ray lay back staring and crying

Shayne couldn't look at him.

A doctor came in. "We need to take Ray for surgery now to try and re-attach his breathing tube an dstitch his throat together. So will every one please leave whilst we prep him.

Ray gripped Syanes hand, suddden strength appearing

SHayne looekd at im "I'll be back babe, I rpomise"

Dewsperation was in his eyes and he gripped shayne more

Shayne squeezed his hand, really wanting to stay.

When teh rest had filtered out teh doctor looked at the two boys clasped hands

Shayne didn't look away from Ray.

Teh docto sighed and began to prep.

SHayne held his hand.

The doctor pulled back teh covers and pulled a carrier up and put Ray on it carefully. "Please let go of his hand for a second"

Shaynelooked reluctant

"You can hodl his hand again afterwards."

Shayn lt go

Teh doctor pulled teh thin cloth thing ray was wearing off him gently, before covering Rays lower halkf with a blanket. "You can hold it again now

SHayne clasped Rays hand.

Ray gripped his weakly

The doctor led the two dwn teh hallway

Shayne kept up.

The docotr walked away for a second pretending to check something when in reality he was just letting them say good bye
