sergeant White knelt beside him, ignoreing the stains that were going on her dress. She looked at him. "Darren, you have to. Its only a little while longer. You'll gte a huge fine if you dotn." she said

"I dont cre" mumbled Darren, His word barly distinguishable "I was forced into this, I'll be damned if Im being forced to stay"

"Darren. please stay. You've less then a year left. ou just need to hold youir head highh, and show taht nothuing can hurt you. Because you took teh hand you were delt, and are damned going to turn it inot a good winning hand." She put a finger under Darrens chin and tipped it up to look him in the yes. She was sat next to him now. "Are you going to give in like a wimp, or are you going to fight on through?"

Darren looked away "Wimp, everytime Sarg" he said, Then, Almost contemptiously "Always have been"

Sergeant white tunred him to look at her. "Darren. Yoiu will not give up. That is not you. I know life like this can be gruelling, but you have to fight. If you just let go, you will never get to you destination. So stop pitying and start fighting for what you want. And if geting out of here is what you want, then the fine wont help you to do what ever you want to do after the army. You have to think about things in the long run. What if you did something right now, that could change your future for the better. Would you?" said Sergeant white feiorcely. They were inches apart now, and Sergeant white was staring at Darren with an unwavering gaze.

"I dunno" muttered Darak with a weak shrug.

"If it would make you happy would you?" asked Sergeant white. She refused to let Darren avert his gaze. she held it stead, keeping hold of Darrens face so he could move

"But I'm not happy NOW"

"Thats not the piont. If there was an action, any thing, taht would at least get you through the next day, would you take that action? think of what you want to do right now more then any thing, leaving the army not uincluded, and think if tehre was any thing to get ytou that."

Darren shrugged "I havent got enoug money or the right grades to go to college" he said simply "So I can do sh*t all, Theres nothing I can do toget me there" he said, feeling even worse than before "Seems Im doomed to being miserable"

The sergeant Sighed. "Darren. i'm not talking about the future. We'll deal with taht when it comes. i mean right now. Some dream you nmight have that could be fuffiled in teh next ten minutes."

"havent got any" lied Darrenpulling his head away and not meeting her eyes.

"Darren? What is it?2 demanded Sergeant white, pulling his face round again.

Darren Only met her eyes for a second before dropping is gaze, not wangting Rosemary to recognise the slight longing there.

"Darren?"

"What?" he mumbled.

"Whatever you want just go for it. If its your dream you should folow it."

"It-It wont happen" said Darren.

"That sort of thinking isn't going to gte you any where. Even if it doesn't work your way first time, try again and again. Cos one way or another, thge tging will bow to you for never giving upo hope."

"It wont, She doesnt fell the same" he said then cursed himself for letting that slip.

Sergeant White smilied. "She? Well, a girl getts very flattered by being liked. Even if she may not liek you now, if your around her alot and are al;ways kind to her, she may fall inlove with you."

"She wont ive tried" said Darren, Definatly ot meeting ehr gaze his time "We've been around eachother for three years now, Its never gonna happen" e said Because you care more about fucking RAVEN tha me... he thought bitterly.

Darren. For all you know, she could be hiding feeling for you too. You just have to take the jump."

"Fine" he muttered Turning away "I love you"

Sergeant White did a double take. "what now?" she asked, suddenly wishing some one else was tehre to pinch her.
